Lowdown Brass Band
Lowdown Brass Band
The Lowdown Brass Band (LDB) is, by all accounts, a Chicago musical institution. The LDB flawlessly synthesizes brass band, hip hop, reggae, ska, rhythm and blues, afrobeat, latin, rock, and jazz with the street beat/second line sounds of NOLA. Lowdown's infectious and diverse sound has something for every listener. The LDB brandishes a powerful veteran brass frontline of trumpets, trombones, saxophones, and a funky backline of drums and sousaphone. Combining the intelligent, poetic ferocity and skateboard culture from Chicago veteran MC Billa Camp with stellar three part vocal harmonies, world class improvisation, slick body movement, and a grooving percussion line they create an unforgettable block-party-like-atmosphere. The Lowdown Brass Band will rock any party from the street to the stage.

Fresh off their performance at The 2017 Chicago Jazz Festival, constant performing and touring the US and Canada, and the release of Lowdown Sounds with a cameo by Roy Ayers on the track "Everybody Loves The Sunshine", Lowdown Brass is set to begin their next chapter with their January release of their 5th full length studio album "Lowdown Breaks". This new album steps deeper into refining their sound as a brass vehicle for combing the hip hop voice with multiple world music and jazz styles - breaking the traditional mold of a brass band. Check out the sin

"Lowdown Breaks" sounds like every instrument comes from a sample off an classic soul record - the drum "break" from a JB's record, or a horn blast ripped from an Al Green cut - and that was the idea from the beginning: to create that sound. This idea a nod to the traditional music creation process from original breaks DJs and producers from the Golden Age of Hip Hop and gives the album a little sound from "The Apache" to "Funky Drummer" but always sounding new and fresh.

Kennett High School's own Lilian Alba (piano), Caleb Pebly (saxophone), and Evan Shinn (tombone) present the jazz trio, Grüv. As juniors, they've participated in the many ensembles Kennett High School has to offer including the Orchestra, String Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band and Marching Band. As aspiring musicians, they've devoted time to rehearse before school to create music inspired by the founders of the group: John Hoffman, Dennon Hoernig, Jake Saltzberg, and Dj Augustine.
