Artists, poets, musicians, storytellers – collect with us at the Kennett Flash with stories and songs about the journey to freedom. Hosted by musical guest Leon Spencer, our Open Mic celebration of Juneteenth is a welcoming opportunity to connect and share stories with our minds on the emancipation of American slaves and the continuing journey for freedom, equality, inclusion and equity.

Join us at 3:00pm for a special performance of Bayard Rustin and discussion by People’s Light!

ARTIST SIGN UP: Please use this link ( to reserve a performance time slot. Each artist is allowed 10 minutes for poetry, music, education, or stories. Please keep our “Journeying Toward Freedom” theme in mind for the content of your performance. This day is about celebrating Juneteenth, but also about learning, sharing, and connecting around the injustice inherent in a system that took more than 100 years to recognize the event as a Federal holiday.

AUDIENCE RSVP: If you would like to be an audience member, but will not be a presenting artist, please RSVP to attend our FREE Juneteenth: Journeying Toward Freedom: Open Mic event hosted by Leon Spencer.  Interested artists should sign up here:
