Show | 8pm // Doors | 7pm
$25 ADV / $30 DOS / $20 Kennett Flash Members

The jazz supergroup of the year is right here – SHEroes, convened by pianist-composer Monika Herzig for a second recording by distinguished improvising virtuosos who are all, not just incidentally, women. Monika’s deft, always supportive pianism and her warm, joyous, practical sensibility marks every tune with SHEroes. As a Doctor of Music Education at Indiana University, she is a Senior Lecturer focusing on Arts Management in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. She is the biographer of IU’s late Doctor David Baker (IU Press, 2011) and recently released “Experiencing Chick Corea” (Rowman & Littlefield, 2017).

SHEroes also features an international cast of players:

Reut Regev (Israel) – Trombone
Jennifer Vincent (USA/NYC) – Trumpet
Jamie Baum (NYC) – Flute
Leni Stern (Germany/NYC) – Electric Guitar
Rosa Avila (Mexico/NYC) – Drums
with the occasional guests Mayra Casales (percussion), Lakecia Benjamin (saxophones) and Akua Dixon (cello).

Each member is a first call, in demand artist for multiple groups and a leader/composer/arranger in her own right.

“These are all incredible accomplished musicians, working hard and often sacrificing other opportunities, family time and resources to do as they do, to perform in this group,” Herzig says of her colleagues. Monika Herzig’s SHEroes presents a model of empowerment for everyone.

This tour is supported by a Jazz Roads Touring Grant by Southern Arts.

“Female musicians now win competitions, lead bands large and small, and set new trends in improvised music. SHEroes is powerful!” – Bob Blumenthal/GRAMMY Winning Journalist.

“SHEROES is a brilliant project involving some of my favorite musicians, spearheaded by Monika Herzig. It is soulful and thoughtful. I especially love their take on “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough“– it captures the spirit of the group because there is no stopping great artists from making great music, as demonstrated on this stellar recording.” – TERRI LYNE CARRINGTON

“Didn’t expect to hear this treatment of my own song. So nice to be able to honestly say I really really liked it!” – VALERIE SIMPSON
